“The highly attentive musical director Beatrice Venezi is at her very best, guiding the Teatro Verdi orchestra and the choir (rehearsed by Antonio Longo) through the pitfalls of the myriad musical styles that Weill took pleasure in scattering throughout the work to give it substance and coherence. It is, in short, a source of admiration how the expanded choir renders the many divergent and dissonant sounds so effectively, and how Venezi conducts, with youthful vigour, the Teatro Verdi orchestra, at times conveying harshness and rhythmic starkness, at times a jazzy ease. His „Moon of Alabama“ is very catchy. It is by no means easy to interpret this music, which is as catchy as it is unsettling. Finally, the audience rewarded the performance with a very long and thunderous round of applause.”
