We can state quite plainly that, in the role she was called upon to fulfil on this occasion, the young soprano from Lucca (34), whilst demonstrating a firm command of her voice and confidence in her phrasing – and notwithstanding a few instances of excessive volume – proved to be one of the key contributors to the evening’s successful outcome. Her interpretation, in keeping with the finest traditions, displayed precision, vigour and careful nuances, as well as precise and lively dynamics and an eloquent adherence to Verdi’s cantilena.
