In the orchestra pit, the young Italian conductor Beatrice Venezi, who has just turned thirty, modulates the tempi with finesse and precision to suit each scene, working with the Avignon-Provence National Orchestra to emphasise the lively attacks of the flutes and brass, the lyrical outpourings of the strings, the village scenes with the tutti; her talent for bringing the music vividly to life, combined with her Hollywood-style looks, gives her an irresistible charisma.
